His language made of radiant brushstrokes is enriched by the uncontaminated nature in which he grew up.
All kinds of traditional Thai elements emerge: the rich and joyous culture, the warm colours of the sunsets, the traditional ritual masks and the stunning abstract decorations from the temples. Chaituch’s lines have a unique flowing rhythm. Some of his most beautiful works appear as fascinating interweaving of abstract forms. Large and colorful canvases where the entire Asian continent is contained in an harmonious tangle of curling shapes and curves. In fact, Somsak Chaituch has a strong and unique identity.
In his youth, Somsak worked on traditional Thai carvings and was taught the decorative details he now adds to his paintings. The viewer is captured by the ornamental details, emblematic of Thai traditional clothing, and by the infinite shades of ochre and yellow tints. In his numerous conceptual landscapes we can perceive the splendor of the garments and the innate grace and gestures of the traditional dancers. This is also echoed in his wonderfully energetic portraits.
His unique creative genius perfectly communicates the wonders of his native cultural tradition with a Western avant-garde and contemporary style.
